PSEi POSTS 7.3% DECREASE YEAR-TO-DATE IN 2025

2025 MARKET RECAP: PSEI STRUGGLES, BUT CAPITAL RAISING AND SECTORAL GROWTH SHINE

The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) closed at 6,052.92 points on December 29, 2025, marking a 7.3% decline year-to-date. Despite this, the PSE conducted two initial public offerings (IPOs) in 2025 alongside eight follow-on offerings and 14 private placements.

The PSE's other key benchmarks saw positive performance. The PSE MidCap and PSE DivY indices increased by 20.17% and 2.37% YTD, respectively, while daily average value turnover rose by 20.10% YTD. However, domestic market capitalization declined by 6.29% YTD. Additionally, the market experienced net foreign selling of Php 51.78 billion.

One out of five blue-chip companies on the Philippine Stock Exchange ended 2025 in the green, with the top performers led by ICTSI, which surged 48%, followed by LT Group with a 41% increase. Puregold rose 23%, Manila Electric Co. gained 18%, and JG Summit saw a 15% rise YTD. On the contrary, the biggest losers included DigiPlus, which dropped 41%, followed by Jollibee Foods, down 33%. ACEN lost 32%, Monde Nissin fell 31%, and Globe Telecom saw a decline of 28% YTD.

Sectoral performance showed the Mining & Oil index as the top performer, climbing 92.34% YTD, followed by the Services sector. Despite the challenges faced by the PSEi in 2025, these results reflect some areas of strength, with hopes for recovery and growth in 2026.

BSP'S 2025 YEAR IN REVIEW: EASING RATES, ECONOMIC STABILITY, AND CORRUPTION ACTION

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) took key actions in 2025 to stabilize the economy amid challenges such as inflation, weak growth, and corruption cases. The central bank reduced borrowing costs through five policy rate cuts this year, culminating in a rate of 4.5% in December, down from 5.75% in January. This easing cycle aimed to stimulate economic activity, with inflation remaining below the government’s target range, reaching a four-month low of 1.5% in November.

In addition to monetary policy adjustments, the BSP, through the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC), took decisive action in addressing the flood control corruption scandal, freezing over ₱13 billion in assets linked to anomalies in the misappropriation of public funds. As of December, nearly 4,679 bank accounts were frozen in connection with these anomalies.
